Salvatore and Maria Esposito left Naples with one suitcase, a family recipe book, and a dream. In 1987, they opened Bella Napoli in a tiny Carroll Gardens storefront โ twenty seats, no reservations, line out the door.
Three decades later, their son Marco runs the kitchen with the same sourdough starter his mother brought from Italy. The wood-fired oven is original. The recipes haven't changed.
Today, Bella Napoli is a Brooklyn institution โ but it still feels like Sunday dinner at the Esposito family table.
"The Margherita here ruined pizza for me everywhere else. I'm not even joking โ I drove 45 minutes just to get it again last week."
"Been coming for 15 years. Marco now remembers my usual order. The osso buco is still the best in the borough โ maybe the city."
"Took my Italian grandmother here and she cried. Said it tasted exactly like her mother's cooking in Salerno. That's the only review you need."
Reservations fill fast on weekends. Book your table now โ or walk in and hope for the best.
